Songs: Jeopardy
First dates can be fun sometimes, and one of ours was exactly that. Fifteen minutes late into the night of our date, I heard you arrive before I even saw you, for the car announced that you were finally there. It was big, it was bright, it was fast, and it was loud . . . and I wondered if it was really you as I walked down the driveway to meet it. I looked into the window and there you were, smiling at me as I said “for real?” . . . and you laughed and said “yes.” And so began the start of a fun night cruising around in a car that belonged to a friend.
What made it memorable though, as I read about it in my journal, was the laughter I had as you stressed for a few minutes when the car wouldn’t start up again. There we were, at the bottom of my parent’s driveway, me laughing while you were mumbling “oh no, not now” and saying your friends name out loud. I look back at it now and I smile as I remember that moment with you.
The car finally started though and we were on our way. It was a fun night, and as we left my home and you drove along the highway leading us into town, I will always remember the song that played as you looked over at me and asked for a kiss hello. It wasn’t a romantic song, but your request and the swerve of the car as you kissed me made it memorable, and hearing it now will always remind me of laughter, kisses and cruising on a fun evening out with you.
